Bowen Fan used real-world projects developed during the SquareOne program to demonstrate his value to employers. His proactive approach, including creating custom presentations for interviews, led to a successful placement at FanTuan.
Before Squareone :
Lacked professional marketing experience in the North American market.
Initial resume was a basic university draft with little technical weight.
Received very few responses from English-language job postings.
After Squareone :
Project Integration: Featured SquareOne projects—such as Job Scraping, the H1B Report, and Marketing Campaigns—as the primary highlights of his resume.
Platform Pivot: Identified Indeed as his most successful platform after finding LinkedIn and other sites less responsive for his niche.
Strategic Interviewing: For his interviews at FanTuan, he created his own slide decks to analyze the company's current marketing and propose new strategies.
Technical Focus: Emphasized his ability to drive sales and optimize Click-Through Rates (CTR) using techniques learned in the program.
Phase 1: The One-Month Countdown
I was facing a ticking clock. With only about a month to secure a role, I didn’t have the luxury of a "slow and steady" job search. My biggest hurdle was a classic catch-22: I wanted a career in North American Digital Marketing, but my resume was just a basic university draft with zero local professional weight. When I applied to English-language postings, the silence was a constant reminder that I needed something—anything—to prove I could actually deliver results in this market.
Phase 2: Trading "Theory" for "Proof"
SquareOne changed my strategy from telling recruiters what I studied to showing them what I built. Since I lacked a local corporate pedigree, we turned the program's projects into my "professional history."
Project-First Resume: My resume shifted from listing classes to showcasing high-impact technical projects: Job Scraping, H1B Data Reports, and active Marketing Campaigns. These weren't just homework; they were evidence of my technical stack.
The Platform Pivot: I realized that for my specific niche, LinkedIn was a crowded room where I couldn't be heard. SquareOne helped me identify Indeed as my "high-yield" platform, where my response rate suddenly began to climb.
The Language of Growth: I stopped talking about "Marketing" in generalities. I started talking about CTR (Click-Through Rate) optimization, sales funnels, and data-driven strategies I had actually executed during the program.
The Language of Growth: I stopped talking about "Marketing" in generalities. I started talking about CTR (Click-Through Rate) optimization, sales funnels, and data-driven strategies I had actually executed during the program.
Phase 3: The "Aggressive" Interview at FanTuan
When I landed the interview with the North America Regional Manager at FanTuan, I knew I couldn't just sit there and answer questions. I had to lead.
Instead of waiting for them to ask if I had experience, I brought a custom slide deck to the interview. I had analyzed FanTuan’s current marketing presence, identified their pain points, and mapped out exactly how I would fix them using the strategies I’d mastered. We spent an hour diving deep into my SquareOne projects and my sales logic. I wasn't an applicant anymore—I was a consultant presenting a solution.
My Reflection:"When you have a limited timeline, you can’t afford to be passive. SquareOne gave me the 'ammunition'—the projects and the technical vocabulary—but they also gave me the confidence to walk into an interview and tell a manager, 'Here is how I’m going to grow your business.' That shift from student to strategist is why I’m at FanTuan today."
